Developer Heart Machine has announced a sequel to their breakout hit, Hyper Light Drifter, which came out in 2016. The title of the new game is Hyper Light Breaker, starring a new protagonist in a new genre. The new game is to be a 3D action rogue-lite, and can be played alone or with friends. It was announced yesterday on the team’s official Twitter, and the Steam page for the game is already up. The included animation looks awesome!

Its Steam listing explains that the new game will allow players to “explore massive biomes, defeat brutal monsters, create new builds, survive the mysterious Crowns and overthrow the almighty Abyss King.” The page lists the game’s release date as 2023, with no clue as to exactly when. The announcement was tagged with EarlyAccess though, meaning we might be able to look forward to playing the game a little sooner than that.
Heart Machine’s most recent game is Solar Ash, which shared its vibrant aesthetic with Hyper Light Drifter, was also a hit. Can they make it a hat trick with three critical darlings in a row? We’ll have to see.
