The Quarry is the upcoming new horror game by The Dark Pictures Anthology developers Supermassive Games. Like Until Dawn, The Quarry features a classic horror movie setup featuring a group of teenagers stranded in an isolated area trying to survive against something that’s out to get them. And like the previous games, the player controls all the protagonists at different points in the narrative to try to guide them through to the end without meeting a grizzly fate. Some further information has been revealed about a ‘movie mode’ that will allow players to sit back, relax, and watch the game play itself as a movie.
The game features branching paths that depend on character choices and how well the player reacts to quicktime events. Movie mode will allow players to choose certain decisions in advance, such as which characters survive and how likely they are to react in certain ways. The game will then play out without the need for player input, allowing the player to experience the game as the horror movie Supermassive Games so lovingly takes its inspiration from.
The Quarry stars several actors from beloved horror films such as David Arquette (Scream), Lin Shaye (Nightmare on Elm Street), and Lance Henriksen (Aliens). The game was first announced earlier this year, and is set to release on June 10th for PC, PS4 and PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S. Publisher 2K has recently released a 30-minute gameplay video featuring the game’s prologue, giving us a taste of what’s to come.
