Calling all the nerds! Oz Comic-Con is finally returning to Melbourne after a full 2 years of hibernation. On Saturday 11th and Sunday 12th of June Oz Comic-con will be making the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre home for the weekend. The event is back in force, with everything movies, tv, and gaming you could ask for. It’s basically an appetizer before PAX in October!
The guests this year include Aimee Garcia, Kevin Alejandro, Callan McAuliffe, and Remy Hii just to name a few. Bestselling authors C.S. Pacat, Astrid Scholte, and Jay Kristoff will be attending as well. And that’s before you see the huge list of artists featuring this year!
For the gamers keen to leave the house, there’s going to be a wild amount of gaming stuff at Oz Comic-Con this year:
– Gaming Zone and Esports Tournaments: Take a break from the bustle of the convention and check out some grassroots esports competitions in the Australian Esports Leagues free gaming zone. Witness the community that conventions foster and see all the wins for yourself. The gaming zone will feature many of the latest games, hardware, and products.
– Wakey Wakey Gaming Lounge: Take a step back into the past and play games on retro consoles. If that’s a bit dated for you though, there are also VR headsets and the opportunity to win a PS5.
– Tabletop Gaming Library: For those into the tabletop experience, Oz Comicon is going to feature over 40 different tabletop games. While I don’t think I’ll be lining up to play Pandemic, I sure would love to play Catan or Ticket to Ride! Board Game BBQ, Australia’s biggest board gaming podcast will be there to show you the ropes of all the popular games.
Also, don’t forget all the other pop culture that will be present at the con. Everything from Pop Vinyls, to Cosplayers and so many amazing artists selling their creations. I can’t get enough of the artist alleys at fan conventions because of all the incredible, one-of-a-kind pieces on offer. If you see something cool, buy it or you may never see it again!

If you are planning to attend Oz Comic-Con, be sure to mask up and carry hand sanitiser and distance where possible. We are currently in a pretty brutal flu season as well as an endemic and that’s even before con flu. Make good decisions and be sure to have fun!
