Summer Game Fest Live came in with many announcements for new games, one of which was the release date for Warhammer 40K: Darktide. A new trailer was released, showing a mix of cinematics to set up the scene and mission. It wasn’t just smacking enemies around, but trying to restore energy sources or deploy machines. The gameplay footage demonstrated how a team of 4 players would be working together, defeating enemies and completing objectives. We also got to see some melee and ranged combat from the combatants, which was a real treat to watch.
Getting to see combat that involved the team working together was great. Ranged combat involved picking off targets from a distance or using high powered explosives to clear enemy groups. Melee combat had its time to shine in the trailer, demonstrating that players would be able to do more than swing a sword at enemies. There were examples of blocking attacks, using skills to knockdown enemies, as well as using melee attacks to fight off more than one enemy. There was also footage of players switching between ranged and melee combat at a moment’s notice, which is exciting for players who may have thought some classes would have poor melee/ranged combat potential.
Fatshark (the developers who also created the Warhammer: Vermintide series), also announced that Warhammer 40K: Darktide would launch with Nvidia DLSS, ray tracing, and Nvidia Reflex support. If you have the graphic cards/5th gen consoles that can support those features, the game is going to look just as great on your consoles/PC as it did in the trailer, if not better.
Warhammer 40K: Darktide will be released on Steam, Windows Store, Xbox Series X|S, and Xbox Game Pass on September 13, 2022. Pre-orders are available for Steam and Xbox platforms.
