Originally announced back in April, Return to Monkey Island, the next game in the point-and-click adventure series, now has a release date. Fans keen to see Guybrush Threepwood, Elaine and friends won’t have to wait long. It releases just next month.
The brief trailer above is run through by cheeky and stubborn salesman Stan. Teased are some of the adventures and locations awaiting players, including returns to familiar areas from the original game. Closing out the trailer is a reveal for a release date of September 19. Players can preorder the game and receive a horse armor item that will subsequently be in their inventory. Naturally, in true tongue-in-cheek fashion, it won’t serve any purpose.
Return to Monkey Island is a unique case for the franchise, serving as the first entry in thirteen years. It’s also set in between Monkey Island 2: LeChuck’s Revenge and The Curse of Monkey Island, the series’ second and third games. This new foray is being developed by Terrible Toybox, in collaboration with Lucasfilm Games and Devolver Digital.
Return to Monkey Island releases on PC and Nintendo Switch as a console exclusive. Get keen! It’s right around the corner!
