After months of teases and vague trailers that left us pondering its very premise, Sonic Frontiers is now nearing release. A fresh Gamescom showing revealed not only a further understanding of the narrative but a November release date.
Sonic Frontiers’ story will follow the blue hedgehog waking up on a strange and mysterious new island. Sonic will face an ominous antagonist in a white-haired individual with otherworldly powers and an army of unusual creatures. The journey across the island will contain a hunt for the missing Chaos Emeralds and familiar faces in a captured(?) Amy. Sections of the game look to be very retro-inspired, entering the 2D plane as a breakup from the world exploration.
What does all this mean? We don’t quite know. Thankfully, it won’t be that long a wait. Sonic Frontiers has been confirmed to release on November 8 for PlayStation 4 and 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch and PC. That’s just one day before the monolithic Sony release that is God of War Ragnarok. Who will come out on top? I’m rooting for our friendly little blue blur.
