Wylde Flowers wins Apple Arcade Game of the Year

Posted on November 30, 2022

Charming farming and life sim Wylde Flowers, made here in Melbourne by Studio Drydock, has won the App Store award for Apple Arcade Game of the Year.

It’s not the first award for the game, which won the Apple Design Award for Inclusivity earlier this year, as well as having won Excellence in Narrative and Excellence in Mobile Games at the Australian Game Developer Awards 2022 just last month.

Wylde Flowers is a farming and life sim with a twist, where main character Tara moves home to look after her grandmother, only to find out that she is actually a witch. It’s a wonderful cosy title with stellar voice acting and gorgeous visuals, so we’re not surprised it has won yet another award.

Other gaming winners from the App Store Awards 2022 include:

  • iPhone Game of the Year: Apex Legends Mobile
  • iPad Game of the Year: Moncage
  • Apple TV Game of the Year: El Hijo
  • Mac Game of the Year: Inscryption
  • China Game of the Year: League of Legends eSports Manager

In our review of Wylde Flowers, we said: Wylde Flowers is what you get when you take a farming/life sim, such as Stardew Valley, and focus more heavily on the narrative and characters. A constant shift of events and huge amounts of voiced lines brings this world to life, even if that focus does mean the simulation aspects of the gameplay are reduced. With a lovingly detailed world and equally lovely examples of diversity, you could do a lot worse than spend your week playing Wylde Flowers.

We recently had Amanda Schofield, founder of Studio Drydock, on our show talking all about the adventure and farming sims in general, which you can listen to here.

If you want to check it out for yourself, Wylde Flowers is available now on Apple Arcade, Switch and PC.
