Dead Island 2 goes gold and releases a week early

Dead Island 2 looks like it’s finally actually coming out as the game has officially gone gold with a new and earlier release date set for the title. This sequel to 2011’s Dead Island has been under development for quite some time now, inflicted by many delays and troubled development. It’s a bit of a relief then to see this one on the actual homestretch and receive the announcement of an earlier release date rather than a later one.

The news comes from official Dead island channels such as their Twitter feed which reads, “You asked for it, you got it. Dead Island 2 went gold and it’s coming out a week early. See you in HELL-A on April 21, 2023.”

We got to check this title out late last year for a preview, where we said, “wading through waves of zombies feels as good as ever… Parkour will undoubtedly be missed by some, though the absence just more comfortably emphasises the strength of the environmental design and boots-on-the-ground feeling.”

The game’s earlier release date means it’ll be available on April 21 instead of April 28. It’s possible this decision was made by the studio after the delay of Star Wars Jedi: Survivors pushed its release to the exact same date as Dead Island 2. Either way, it looks like we’re going to be able to get into our zombie smashing a little earlier. Dead Island 2 is set to release on April 28, 2023 to PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S.
