In an exciting reveal at Summer Game Fest 2023, Focus Home Entertainment and Saber Interactive announce John Carpenter’s Toxic Commando. The game is set to launch in 2024 for PC via the Epic Games Store, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series S|X.
Toxic Commando is a cooperative first-person shooter game, powered by Saber Interactive’s renowned Swarm Engine, used in World War Z and Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine.
The premise is straightforward horror. A science experiment aimed at harnessing Earth’s core power goes terribly wrong, awakening the Sludge God, an entity capable of turning people into zombies. With a diverse arsenal of deadly equipment, including grenades, katanas, and regular weapons, you can customise loadouts and utilise special abilities to combat the undead nightmare.
Legendary horror movie director, John Carpenter, who has a deep passion for video games, expressed his enthusiasm for the collaboration in a statement, “It’s exciting to be collaborating on a new video game with Focus and Saber. Look, I really like shooting zombies. They keep telling me that they’re called ‘the infected.’ Please. They’re ghouls, dude. They blow up real good, and there are a ton of them. People are going to love this game”.
Tim Willits, Chief Creative Officer at Saber Interactive, also shared his excitement about the project. He said, “We’re thrilled to collaborate with the legendary John Carpenter on this project. His unique vision, unparalleled expertise in storytelling, and ability to create immersive atmospheres have helped us elevate this all-new, 80s-inspired experience to the next level. It’s an honor to work alongside him to deliver a truly unforgettable adventure”.
Adding to the excitement, John Bert, Managing Director at Focus Entertainment, expressed his satisfaction with the partnership. “We’re happy to team up once again with our historical partner Saber,” said Bert. “Toxic Commando is a new entry into the successful long-term relationship between Focus and Saber. We cannot wait to unveil more about this new amazing IP created by the talented teams at Saber, and leverage Focus’ expertise in turning new franchises into worldwide hits.”
