It leaked prior to the reveal at the 2023 Summer Game Fest, but now we have the official word and a new trailer. Like a Dragon Gaiden: The Man Who Erased His Name is releasing this November. Get very excited.
The new trailer is bursting with gameplay, with protagonist Kiryu throwing his weight around as expected, only now he has a new stance that allows him to whip around objects and enemies as if he were shooting webs from his hands. It’s typical Like a Dragon/Yakuza combat, only dialled up to 11 in a new zany way.
What I’m most curious about with Like a Dragon Gaiden: The Man Who Erased His Name is the story. Situated in between Yakuza 6: The Song of Life and Yakuza: Like a Dragon (the 7th mainline entry), we see what Kiryu has been up to for all these years and how he got to where he will be in Like a Dragon 8 when that releases next year. For those in the know, Yakuza 6: The Song of Life is quite the swan song for the hero so the premise of this very game raises eyebrows. Here’s hoping they can justify his return following his strong prior departure.
Like a Dragon/Yakuza/whatever you want to call it these days is truly blossoming in recent years. This year alone we’ve already had the wonderful Edo set Like a Dragon: Ishin! Now, The Man Who Erased His Name joins the fray on November 9 for PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S.
