Overwatch 2: Invasion is the latest release of content for the 2022 hero shooter with something for every player. On August 11th, you can start playing a new set of story missions and try a new hero that’s arrived. New Flashpoint PvP maps are available and they are the largest maps ever released. There’s also a limited-time Underworld co-op mission and a new Hero progression system to get you motivated. It’s a great time to try out new heroes and earn new rewards for getting better.
Illari is the new Hero coming to the Overwatch 2 roster. Hailing from Peru, she is a Support-class hero who draws her power from the sun. She’s good at healing but she’s also effective at dealing damage. Her rifle is a long-range offensive weapon that can switch to mid-range for healing. She can also drop a healing pylon that heals your team as long as it isn’t destroyed.
If you ever wanted to learn more about the story of Overwatch 2, you’ll probably already have PvE story missions on your radar. These got Blizzard into some hot water earlier in the year after some changes to Overwatch 2’s PvE plans removed what was originally thought to be free content. The idea here is that you’ll take on the AI as you fight across Gothenburg, Rio, and Toronto while reliving the history of Overwatch 2. Offering new cinematics and a variety of enemies to fight, these missions could prove to be some good additional fun.
Flashpoint maps are capture-the-point but are the largest PvP maps ever made for Overwatch 2. Coordinating with your teammates seems more necessary than ever as you’ll have more ground to cover. You must capture three points to win the game, and they rotate between five potential areas on the map. The capture times are faster than regular control points, and you must move quickly if you want to claim them over your opponents.
You can also fight against new enemies in unexplored areas of King’s Row on a weekly basis, as Underworld puts you up against enemies from the Null Sector. There’s something new every week, giving you a reason to jump back in and tackle a new challenge.
While gaining levels and Hero missions aren’t new, Hero Mastery combines the two concepts together. You can now tackle new objectives with your heroes, gaining experience and progressing your level to earn rewards. Winston, Mercy, Reinhardt, Sojourn, and Tracer will join the Hero Mastery roster later, allowing you to work with more heroes in a new way.
Overwatch 2 is available for free on Battle.net, PlayStation 4 & 5, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One and Series X|S, and it’s now available on Steam as well. The new Invasion content isn’t free, however, with an Invasion Premium Battle Pass, a standard Invasion Bundle, and an Invasion Ultimate Bundle all up for sale. You can find out more information on the official website.
