Lies of P, Round8 Studio’s Pinocchio-themed Soulslike, will be getting both free and paid DLC in the future, as per a confirmation from the game’s director, Jiwon Choi. A sequel, branching out to other classic public domain properties, is also in the works.
In the director’s letter video, Choi (who begins the video wearing a terrifying rabbit-themed gas mask for whatever reason) begins by acknowledging some criticisms of the difficulty level in the opening hours of Lies of P. He promises an upcoming free patch due out this month which will provide “significant” changes to weapon and character balance as well as reduce the difficulty in the early stages of the game. One such change is providing players with the Rising Dodge ability by default rather than requiring it to be unlocked separately. Players will also be able to equip hats and glasses individually to customise Pinocchio in more detail, and a free outfit will be provided to all players.
Finally, Choi confirms that Lies of P is both getting more DLC as well as a proper sequel. “Our highest priority is developing the DLC and working on our sequel,” Choi says in the video. “The dev team is putting in significant effort, brainstorming and exploring different aspects of the projects.” Said sequel is already teased in the game’s post-credits scene, but now we have confirmation that it is formally in development. Choi also reveals two pieces of concept art which tease the game’s upcoming DLC.
Lies of P was a pleasant surprise for Soulslike action game fans this year, so news that the developer is working on more content is certainly something to look forward to. More information regarding any upcoming expansions will likely be revealed before long as they near completion.
