The Game Awards 2023 nominees have been revealed

Posted on November 14, 2023

The Game Awards 2023, the glorified marketing show that also happens to celebrate games that came out this year, is almost upon us again. That means we have a bunch of new nominations to argue about, including the big one – Game of the Year 2023.

It’s been a stellar year for video games, with some truly gigantic, wonderful releases. Journalists from across the globe (a pool of media that may or may not deserve to be in the mix for such decisions) have decided that the following are deserving of being nominated for Game of the Year 2023:

Game Awards Game of the Year 2023

The big winners in terms of number of nominations include the brilliant and trippy Alan Wake 2 along with the epic and incredible Baldur’s Gate 3, both scoring 8 nominations across all the categories. Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 wasn’t far behind them with 7 nominations, while Hi-Fi Rush, Super Mario Bros. Wonder and The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom all ended up with 5 each.

If we were to break it down by publisher, Nintendo leads the pack with 15 nominations, with PlayStation on 13 and Xbox/Bethesda/Blizzard sitting on 10. Controversially, Dave the Diver somehow earned itself a nomination in the “Best Independent Game” category, as it’s developed by a team under the banner of Nexon, a video game publisher that would otherwise be considered AAA given its access to money and resources.
