The Pokémon Company has announced a brand new instalment of Pokémon Legends during its recent Pokémon Presents presentation.
A teaser video for Pokémon Legends: Z-A was shown at the end of the livestream. While not much was shown in terms of gameplay, it was hinted that the game would take place during the urban redevelopment of Lumose City, which is the main city of the Kalos Region. It also featured the Mega Evolution symbol, hinting that we might learn the history of this special Pokémon ability. Unfortunately, the Pokémon Company didn’t make any comments about the upcoming title, so perhaps more information will be released at a later date.
The Kalos Region was first introduced in Pokémon X and Y, which was released on the Nintendo 3DS in 2013. In the original game, it mentioned the “Ultimate Weapon,” a weapon of mass destruction used 3000 years ago. The title of this upcoming Pokémon Legends game also features the letters ‘Z-A,’ which could be in reference to the 3000-year-old king named AZ, who was the first to use the Ultimate Weapon to revive Floette. However, it’s uncertain if more details of said weapon would be included since it’s located in a different area in the region.
So far, the Pokémon Legends titles are known to explore past events from the mainline Pokémon games. Pokémon Legends: Arceus, took place many years ago during the Sinnoh Region’s past, when Pokémon were heavily feared by civilians and the concept of gym battles was close to non-existent. Based on the teaser trailer for Pokémon Legends: Z-A, this new installment might take place in near-modern times due to Lumose City’s development being the main focus.
Pokémon Legends: Z-A is scheduled to come out in 2025 and will be released simultaneously worldwide on the Nintendo Switch.
