Fortnite summons the gods in new Myths and Legends themed season

Out with the spies and in with the myths! Fortnite Chapter 5, Season 2 has brought the wrath of the Greek gods down upon the battle royale. Zeus, Hades, and Poseidon lead the charge – bringing Olympus and The Underworld to the island. Towards the end of last season, Pandora’s Box was opened, literally. Now the gods have descended and they are out for blood, bringing their own powers and weapons to the fight. You know you want to see the Greek Gods wielding guns, give the trailer a look below!

Fortnite has been under a makeover of late. Last season saw the battle royale game evolve into a multiverse experience of sorts. Not only can players dive into the battle royale but there’s also Fortnite Festival, Lego Fortnite, and Rocket Racing. Considering Disney’s recent purchase of a 1.5 billion dollar stake in Fortnite, it seems evident that this might be just the beginning of the new facets of the game coming.

  • Fortnite Festival is a new music-driven, rhythm-based game, and Epic experience. Fortnite Festival is playable as two unique experiences: Fortnite Festival Main Stage and Fortnite Festival Jam Stage. This mode also features its own Battle Pass that currently features a Lady Gaga skin and other cosmetics.
  • Lego Fortnite is a survival and creative experience where players can create their own Lego worlds to explore. Think Minecraft, but everything here is made of Lego.
  • Rocket Racing is exactly what it sounds like. Get behind the wheel of a fiery vehicle and fly to the finish line first in this slick racing game.

Each of these modes has its own rewards for playing it that also tie back to the main season battle Pass, earning players seasonal rewards. As one might expect, this season’s Battle Pass is themed after Greek Mythology. Players can unlock 7 skins, with variants in the passes’ first 100 tiers as well as the usual selection of emotes, pickaxes, item wraps, gliders, loading screens, V-bucks, musical instruments, and the usual collection of Battle Pass fodder. I’m quite impressed by this season’s dedication to the theme in this pass. Using Greek Mythology as a backdrop for a battle royale takes guts, and yet Epic Games not only delivers on the assignment but they make it their own too.

While the season was delayed by a few hours due to technical difficulties, things have settled now and the lobbies are more lively than ever! Having had the opportunity to play the new season and soak up the mythological goodness, already this season feels entirely different to the last. Including powers in the game themed after their divine counterparts is riveting stuff. It’s not new, many players will remember other events that have led to fresh powers added to the game, but having them from the season onset is a boon. Players can find powers scattered around the island, meaning they are regularly seen being used by other players. Zeus’s thunderbolt is a godly force, lifting the player into the air. The other godly item added to the game is the Wings of Icarus. This one is more of a traversal item, but it does pack a punch if players are looking to dive on the enemy.

Later in the season players will also be able to get their hands on the Chains of Hades as well as some familiar elemental abilities too. After much anticipation and guessing, this season’s bonus Battle Pass skin is none other than Korra from The Legend Of Korra! While many speculated that it would be Aang from Avatar The Last Air Bender, Korra will be this season’s extra outfit which can be collected by completing her own set of quests later in the season. It’s also believed there will be other Avatar-themed skins and cosmetics though Korra is the only one we’ve seen so far.

Fortnite Chapter 5, Season 2 is available free to play now on basically everything.
