Board game publisher Ravensburger has announced that Disney Lorcana, the new TCG featuring characters from the broad Disney universe, is now available in Australia and New Zealand in limited quantities.
Disney Lorcana is set in the realm of Lorcana, where players play the role of Illumineers, wielding magic ink to summon a team of Disney characters known as glimmers. The twist is, these characters appear in original forms you’ll recognise from their original movies they have featured in, but also twists that show off other sides to these characters, with unique abilities to match. It features more than 200 original pieces of Disney art, so it’s one for collectors as much as it is the competitive crowd.
The release of Disney Lorcana in ANZ has been highly anticipated since it launched in other regions late last year, and now we’ll have the opportunity to get stuck into The First Chapter on June 1. Booster packs and starter decks of the next three sets will be released in the coming weeks, which will catch us up to our global pals:
- Rise of the Floodborn (June 15th)
- Into the Inklands (June 29th)
- Ursula’s Return (July 13th).
By the time the fifth set launches on August 9th, we’ll have access to the full range of cards, with global launch timings syncing up from that point forward.
The first four sets of Disney Lorcana TCG are available in limited quantities and a variety of ways:
- Disney Lorcana TCG starter decks, each including a ready-to-play game deck and quick start rules as well as a lore counter, game tokens and a randomised booster pack ($29.99 AUD/$32.99 NZD RRP)
- Disney Lorcana TCG booster packs of 12 randomised game cards each, including one foil card and two cards with rarities of rare, super rare, or legendary ($9.99 AUD/$10.99 NZD RRP)
Disney Lorcana TCG products will be available for purchase at Australian and New Zealand retail stores including EB Games, Kmart, and other local toy and hobby stores.
“Disney has a longstanding relationship with Ravensburger built on collaboration and innovation, and the introduction of Disney Lorcana TCG takes that to another level,” said Rob Michaelis, VP Licensing, Hardlines, Disney and Pixar. “We’ve worked closely with them on Disney Lorcana TCG creative development for the past three years, jointly developing a global rollout strategy that ensures a slow build and sustainment. We’ve never been so excited about the introduction of a game, especially one that caters to both new and existing Disney fans.”
“For the last year, players have propelled us forward with their enthusiasm. Now that the Disney Lorcana TCG is on shelves, the response from people around the world has been electrifying, blowing away even our wildest predictions for game sales,” said Filip Francke, Global Head of Games at Ravensburger. “We are grateful for Disney’s trust in Ravensburger and their collaboration and support in making this the best game possible. We hope that everyone – Disney fans, TCG players and newcomers alike – feels the love, fun and magic we put into every facet of the game experience.”
We had the opportunity to check out Disney Lorcana at a media launch event this week and found the game to be a charming riff on the well-established card game mechanics from Magic: The Gathering and the recently released Star Wars Unlimited.
With gorgeous artwork, a huge amount of nostalgia for Disney fans and a twist on the core mechanics, Disney Lorcana really does feel like its own thing, with more than enough enticing expansions in the coming months, including one that focuses on cooperative play against a common enemy in Ursula.
Disney Lorcana: The First Chapter is now available. We’ll have a more in-depth look at how the game plays in the coming weeks.
