First look at Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 and release date

Posted on June 10, 2024

During Microsoft’s Xbox Games Showcase and Call of Duty Direct, Activision, alongside developers Treyarch and Raven Software, confirmed the release of Call of Duty: Black Ops 6. Set to launch on 25 October 2024, this instalment promises the most thrilling and expansive Black Ops game, with the exciting return of round-based zombies and the Dark Aether storyline.

Black Ops 6 takes you to the early 1990s, exploring the tumultuous aftermath of the Cold War. The game’s campaign is described as an “epic spy thriller” that combines stealth-based gameplay with intense, blockbuster action across various locations, including Russia, the Middle East, southern Europe, and the United States. Series regulars Frank Woods and Russell Adler return, joined by newcomers Troy Marshall and Jane Harrow.

At launch, you can expect 16 new multiplayer maps, including 12 core 6v6 maps and four Strike maps for 2v2 or 6v6 battles. The return of Classic Prestige ensures there is always something to progress toward, while HUD presets offer customisable interface options for a tailored gaming experience. The biggest change we know so far is to the movement system, known as Omnimovement. Allowing you to move more realistically, chaining movements like sprinting, sliding, and diving seamlessly, it promises to shake up gameplay. New mechanics such as Supine Prone positioning and corner slicing add depth to your combat strategies.

The beloved round-based Zombies mode is back, featuring two new maps: Liberty Falls and Terminus. You will face increasingly challenging waves of undead enemies, uncovering secrets that have become a hallmark of the Zombies experience over the past 15 years.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 will be available on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Windows PC (via Battle.net, Microsoft Store, and Steam), Xbox One, and Xbox Series X on 25 October 2024. The game will also be accessible to Game Pass subscribers on day one. Xbox subscribers will receive the Digital Cross-Gen Bundle, while PC Game Pass subscribers will get the standard edition. Game Pass perks include the Woods Operator Pack and early access to the open beta.

After last year’s middling release, we’re keen to see a return to form.
