UNBEATABLE is a gorgeous anime-inspired rhythm game set in a world where music is illegal

UNBEATABLE stole the show at the 2024 PC Gaming Show (though other incredible games were revealed). Let me pitch it to you quickly. UNBEATABLE is a rhythm game that looks to mesh the anime/graphic novel art style of Scott Pilgrim vs. The World with the kind of upbeat world-building and storytelling of Hi-Fi RUSH. The premise? You are the lead in a punk Riot Girl band of women, committing crimes and creating rock music in a world where music is illegal and considered propaganda. Hook it into my veins.

At first, it looks like a pretty by-the-numbers rhythm game that takes place on a musical note highway on a 2D plain, but several sequences show boss encounters and take the experience to 3D in thrilling setpieces. Backing it the whole time is a killer rock soundtrack and amazing anime character sprites that stand out from environments beautifullly.

UNBEATABLE is releasing in 2025 and the game has been in the works for some time, this new trailer announced a publishing deal with Playstack. If you’re hungry for a taste, a free epilogue is playable.
