New info about a new entry in THQ Nordic’s Darksiders franchise has come to light with the confirmation that a new mainline entry is in development. The new game will be developed by Gunfire Games, the studio behind Darksiders III and Remnant II (but not Darksiders Genesis, the isometric spin-off developed by Airship Syndicate).
The announcement over the weekend that a new Darksiders game is in the works was heralded with a 50 second teaser trailer. Said trailer is rather vague on any actual details of what the gameplay will be like, or even who you will be playing as. The trailer ends with the ominous line “Prepare to ride again“.
The Darksiders series has been mostly dormant for several years. The last mainline instalment came out in 2018, and the last game in the franchise at all was Darksiders Genesis, a spin-off prequel. With Gunfire Games having seen substantial critical success with Remnant II (versus the so-so critical reception of Darksiders III) it was unclear if the studio would be returning to the series, or if THQ Nordic would bother reviving it at all after such a long hiatus.
It’s also not entirely clear if this trailer is for a new entry or perhaps just a remake. The teaser video is simply entitled “Darksiders Teaser”, which doesn’t really hint one way or the other. Whether it’s a new entry or a remake of an existing game on current-gen hardware, with Gunfire Games having refined its craft in the years since the third game, the new project appears to be in safe hands. We will have to wait and see what the future of the Darksiders franchise looks like when more information about this new game is revealed.
