Dragon Age: The Veilguard (née Dragon Age: Dreadwolf) has finally received a formal release date, and it fortunately isn’t too far in the future. In addition, BioWare has unveiled a suite of bonus content which those who preorder the game will be eligible for.
Confirming the new release date, BioWare has released a new trailer showing off the game’s plot and characters. While not providing too much new information, the trailer gives an idea of the stakes, with Solas, the game’s antagonist, bringing a host of elven gods into the material world after a ritual to bring down the Veil was disrupted. There are also some intriguing teases at lore-redefining twists, such as the dwarf companion Harding casting magic, which dwarves in the Dragon Age setting are generally not able to do. Morrigan, the enigmatic mage companion from Dragon Age: Origins, is also making a surprising comeback.
BioWare has also confirmed in a blog post that there will be both a Standard Edition and Deluxe Edition of the game. Those who preorder the Standard Edition of Dragon Age: The Veilguard will receive the game as well as Blood Dragon armour (which in this incarnation will fortunately be simply cosmetic rather than game-breakingly overpowered as it was in Dragon Age: Origins). The Deluxe Edition will come with a suite of additional cosmetic options for player character Rook and their weapons, as well as special weapon and armour set appearances for their NPC companions.
Furthermore, the blog post details several additional bundles of physical goodies which don’t include the game. The first of these is the Rook’s Coffer bundle, which includes a light-up lyrium dagger, a set of cards depicting people and places from Rook’s adventures, an enchanted die, a potion flask which the website warns to not actually drink from and a map of the game world. This bundle ships to Australia and costs $229.55 AUD. There is also the currently-unpriced Vyrantium Pack by Scanavo, which includes an exclusive steelbook case, an ICONART™ Metal Print and magnet wall mount, a notebook and a Collector’s rigid Outerbox. Again, despite including a steelbook case for the game, this bundle doesn’t include the game itself, that must be purchased separately. In addition, Darkhorse is releasing a 256-page art book selling for $99.00 AUD.
After years in development since its initial announcement in 2018, it is good to have a firm idea of when Dragon Age: The Veilguard will actually be playable. We will finally be able to try it out for ourselves when the game releases on October 31st 2024 on PS5, Xbox Series X/S and PC.
