Development studio Techland have announced Dying Light: The Beast, an upcoming standalone title set in the zombie franchise’s post-apocalyptic world. This adventure unleashes players into the former tourist destination Castor Woods on a quest for revenge, featuring a dense open world and the series’ iconic cyclical day/night gameplay loop.
Originally conceived as DLC for Dying Light 2: Stay Human, this title’s scope widened after part of its story leaked, inspiring Techland to craft a standalone experience. The announcement trailer aired today as part of Gamescom. Check it out below.
Playing as test subject Kyle Crane, players will have access to savage abilities (hence the title’s “beast” moniker). Kyle’s DNA has been spliced with that of zombies after living through thirteen years of horrifying experiments, letting him “unleash a beast-like power” on his former captors.
Parkour mechanics perfected in 2022’s excellent Dying Light 2 are set to make their return, with Techland promising “diverse traversal options, whether it’s using your parkour skills to gain the upper hand… or hopping into an abandoned 4×4 to outrun the horrors of the night.” The game will also feature co-op gameplay with up to four players.
While the title has not yet received a release date, its Steam page went live earlier today (in tandem with a discount to the series’ previous titles) and it notes that the game will be free for players who bought the ultimate edition of Dying Light 2.
Dying Light: The Beast is nearing completion and will be coming to PC soon. You can check out the game’s homepage for further details and teaser images.
