MIGW gem Freeplay Parallels early-bird tickets now available

Posted on August 15, 2024

Melbourne International Games Week might still be a bit over a month away, but the excitement is already starting to bubble! It wouldn’t be Games Week without Freeplay’s annual Parallels showcase though, would it? Now in its 10th year, Parallels has garnered a fitting reputation for its illustrious dedication to the most eclectic indie games around. Get a sneak peek at the trailer below!

On October 10, Freeplay Parallels is going to put on one hell of a show! 10 Speakers, 10 Playable games and all on the 10th of the 10th month. With the stars aligned, this is definitely a celebration you don’t want to miss if you adore indie games! Early-bird tickets are on sale now and can be purchased here.

Not only will the speaker line-up be bigger this year, but it’s also coming to a bigger venue. Melbourne Town Hall will be hosting the event that will also feature an exhibition of playable games, and live music alongside the showcase. To celebrate early-bird tickets going on sale, they’ve also announced several speakers for the 10th anniversary.

This year’s exciting line-up of speakers includes…

  • Dinko – Olivia Haines (she/her) and Andy Brophy (he/they)
  • Incolatus – Jane Fiona Kennington (She/her)
  • Toroa: Skycall – Lisa Blakie, she/her
  • Clownbaby – T-Dog eXtreme (they/them)
  • A Dance of Ribbons – David Harris (he/him) & Josiah Lulham (he/him)

For more details on the currently announced speakers, games and music visit the official Freeplay website here. Stay tuned as more speakers will be announced alongside the main ticket release!

Last year’s presentation was a vibrant showcase featuring developers working on games such as Mytiques: Haunted Antiques, Janet DeMornay Is A Slumlord (and a Witch), The Dungeon Experience, Bell’s Beach and Knuckle Sandwich to name a few. Parallels encourages game developers to discuss their passions and findings as game practitioners.

My expectations for Parallels’ 10th-anniversary event are high. Being in a bigger venue means tickets won’t sell out quite as fast – meaning more people will be able to enjoy the event this year! There are few game development showcases that portray the joy and curiosity of game-making quite like Freeplay.

Tickets to Freeplay Parallels 10th Anniversary event are on sale now and can be purchased here. The event is on October 10.
