Assassin’s Creed Shadows delayed until early 2025

Posted on September 26, 2024

It looks like Assassin’s Creed Shadows is going to need some extra time before it’s ready to hit the shelves. The game’s release date has been moved from November 15, 2024 to February 14, 2025. This news comes after Ubisoft decided to pull out of the Tokyo Game Show.  You can read the full delay post from the Assassin’s Creed Offical Twitter/X account below.

Studios delaying games to polish them is nothing new. We can all agree that the last thing anyone wants is for Shadows to be released in a less-than-perfect state. While a delay means we’ll have to wait a little bit longer, I feel like it’s worth it in the end if it improves the play experience. If anything, the need for a delay speaks to the high pressure that game developers are under to make games that not only live up to such high expectations but take as little time to make as possible.

Despite the initial news of the delay, fans will likely appreciate that the game will be released on Steam simultaneously with other platforms. Ubisoft will also be refunding preorders as well as including the first expansion for free. It’s definitely a step in the right direction given the disappointment some fans might feel having to wait a little bit longer.

Ubisoft did also recently announced that they will be bringing Assassin’s Creed Shadows to PAX Australia this year, offering an early playable experience and an in-depth discussion with the game’s director, Charles Benoit. It’s unclear if this delay will affect the Assassin’s Creed Shadows’ presence at the convention or not.

Assassin’s Creed Shadows will now arrive on February 14 on PC, PS5 and Xbox X|S.

UPDATE: Ubisoft ANZ has now officially confirmed that Assassin’s Creed Shadows will not be available to play at the Ubisoft booth. The booth will feature other recent games such as Star Wars Outlaws, Prince Of Persia: The Lost Crown, The Crew Motorfest and Just Dance. It’s a shame players won’t get to go hands-on with Shadows before it releases but the delay can only benefit the games overall quality. You can read the full statement here:
