Mass resignations at Annapurna Interactive won’t impact Control 2, other upcoming titles

Following the news that all of Annapurna Interactive’s staff have resigned, developers of upcoming games that were slated to be published by the studio have chimed in to reassure players that their projects are still on track.

This week, Bloomberg news reported that all 25 workers at Annapurna Interactive had collectively resigned following failed negotiations to split the division from its parent organisation Annapurna Pictures. According to the report, the then-president of Annapurna Interactive, Nathan Gary, was in talks with Annapurna Pictures founder Megan Ellison about spinning off the video game publishing division from the rest of the company. They couldn’t reach an agreement, and Ellsion pulled out of negotiations, leading to Gary’s resignation and “other executives”. The 25 staff of Annapurna Interactive followed suit afterwards.

In the aftermath, fans were left worried about the fate of the upcoming games to be published under Annapurna Interactive’s banner. Fans were primarily concerned about Remedy Entertainment, which announced a partnership with Annapurna just a month ago to produce the highly anticipated Control 2 and adaptations of Alan Wake. A director at Remedy Entertainment reassured worried fans that their partnership was with Annapurna Pictures, not Annapurna Interactive, and that Control 2 would be self-published.

Team Ivy Road, whose upcoming game Wanderstop is expected sometime later this year, also confirmed in a post on Twitter/X that development is still going ahead. Great Ape Games’ The Lost Wilds, and Lushfoil Photography Sim developer Matt Newell also stated they believe they will not be affected.
