During their 2024 RGG summit, Ryu Ga Gotoku Studios and SEGA has announced a new game in the Like a Dragon series, and the trailer makes it clear that it will be absolutely bonkers in the best way possible. It’s called Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii — no prizes for guessing what it’s about. Most exciting of all, the game’s protagonist is none other than series frenemy Goro Majima, who gets to take the helm for the first time!
The lengthy trailer sets up the scene: Majima wakes up on a Hawaiian beach, just like Ichiban does in Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth. But Majima looks like he’s up for a very different kind of adventure than Ichiban, involving amnesia, a lost treasure, the mafia, pirates, and mafia pirates. It looks silly, stupid, and completely awesome. The game seems like a bit of a sequel to Infinite Wealth, as the trailer references a few of the previous game’s events. While the trailer doesn’t focus on gameplay, we do see some of the brawls the series is known for, and we might even be in for some swashbuckling or high-seas combat.
We won’t have to wait long to live out Majima’s best pirate life, as Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii will be released on February 28, 2025, for PlayStation, Xbox, and PC.
