Star Wars Outlaws is a great game, albeit one marred by frustratingly difficult forced stealth sections in the game’s early missions, in which merely being discovered results in an automatic game over. As it happens, Creative Director at Ubisoft Massive, Julian Gerighty, agrees that improvements could be made in that department, and has confirmed that a patch is coming soon to make those early hours a bit more manageable.
In a conversation with GamesRadar, Gerighty acknowledges that certain sections on Star Wars Outlaws’ first planet, Mirogana, can be “incredibly punishing“. He goes on to state that those early difficulty spikes are “a mistake” and “something that we’re going to work on improving“. Discussing ways these sections can be improved, Gerighty states that “I don’t think it means removing the fail state completely, but I do think there are millions of low hanging fruits where we can make it so much more enjoyable and understandable”.
Gerighty acknowledges that these sections are still going to be challenging after patches, but will hopefully be less frustrating. He still wants there to be a “sort of tension“, however “we just don’t want it to feel unfair. And today, I think it feels unfair. And believe it or not, this wasn’t our intention”. Gerighty advises that a patch to improve those early sections and moderate the difficulty level somewhat will be releasing in around 10 days.
It’s nice to see a developer respond to criticism and commit to patching the issue in short order. Further patches to make the game more enjoyable are certainly welcome. Unfortunately, they may not be the shot in the arm that Star Wars Outlaws needs to lift its reportedly disappointing sales figures, as per a report from Reuters. We will find out what the mission changes look like later this month once the patch is released.
