Plague Inc. was released over 12 years ago on mobile platforms and it’s definitely taken off like the plague! Since then the game has grown with multiple expansions, a follow-up game and now a sequel, of sorts. After Inc. sees players rebuilding after a devastating zombie apocalypse. Set in a fictional future, the management sim allows players to grow their own colony and tackle the various challenges of keeping humanity from being entirely overrun by zombies.
What happens after Plague Inc.?
After Inc. a unique blend of strategic simulation, survival city builder and ‘mini 4X’.

It’s not quite the sequel many were expecting but with pop culture’s routine fascination with zombies, it feels like a no-brainer follow-up. This is definitely not a Walking Dead sim game though zombies will factor in as players build a prospering settlement. As a 4X strategy game, players will lead the growth of a colony in spite of it all. It’s a hopeful take on the original formula that sees players build settlements, harvest resources and shape the new society. The developers are also very proud that this game isn’t about a real-life event, at least not yet!
Many returned to Plague Inc. during the COVID-19 pandemic while the developers still remain adamant that the game is purely a simulation. The influx of players led to Ndemic Creations releasing an update called The Cure allowing players to fight back against diseases. I appreciate the value of how it allows players to learn more about infectious diseases while also presenting the details differently. It’s quite a morbid game in a lot of ways, but it allows players to understand transmission and other complexities of viruses.
After Inc. is still in development with more features to come including added levels, traits, crises and leaders. Given that this game does focus on a fictional situation, it does give the developers so much freedom with the management side of this one. With a growing settlement, so many choices will depend on the player’s foresight.
After Inc. is out now on mobile with PC early access coming soon.
