Astro Bot wins Game of the Year at The Game Awards 2024

The Game Awards presentation for 2024 has finished, marking the 10th anniversary of the annual show in which the year’s standout games are celebrated. As with many years, there were some surprises (such as an Elden Ring DLC being nominated alongside full games to begin with) and some fun cameos, including Harrison Ford onstage to promote Indiana Jones: The Great Circle and the famous Muppets, Statler and Waldorf, bringing some levity whenever the pace of the lengthy event began to slow.

The main winners of the year at The Game Awards 2024 were Team Asobi’s Astro Bot, winning overall Game of the Year as well as three other awards. Balatro, the roguelike indie hit developed by the enigmatic solo developer known as LocalThunk, also did very well for itself, snagging three awards of its own. Other notable winners included Metaphor: ReFantazio being awarded Best Narrative and Best RPG, and Senua’s Saga: Hellblade II winning both Best Audio Design and Best Performance for Melina Juergens (both awards which its predecessor, Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice won back in 2017).
