Screen Australia opens 2025 grant applications

Posted on December 22, 2024

Calling all Australian game makers—Screen Australia has just opened applications for the Games Production Fund and Emerging Gamemakers Fund.

The Games Production Fund is flexible support for Australian indie developers and studios, aimed at projects with an existing prototype. If successful, applicants will receive up to $100,000 to support the development of games with budgets of up to $500,000. Meanwhile, The Emerging Gamemakers Fund offers up to $30,000 for projects with budgets of $500,000.

Previous recipients of the Games Production Fund include a wide variety of genres, from forthcoming story-driven platformer Frogreign to rogue-like deck builder Zodiac Mountain.

The two funds are open to different types of projects, so check the eligibility requirements to see which one is right for your project. If your game isn’t at the required application milestones yet, this grant is running in rounds until the 2026/2027 financial year, so it’s never to early to plan future applications.

For those of us who aren’t in the world of development, keeping an eye on the recipients is a great way to support the local industry. Another previous funding recipient of funding, Doggy Don’t Care, was even highlighted by Checkpoint as a standout during SXSW earlier this year.

Applying to these kinds of funds is a lot of work, however, so if you’re considering throwing your hat in the ring make sure to take the time you need to prepare your application.
