Valentine’s Day is rapidly approaching, bringing with it the release of Afterlove EP. This heartfelt game, a swan song from the late developer, promises to be an emotional journey about love, loss, and finding a way forward through the noise.
Afterlove EP is an experience that blends elements from visual novels, narrative adventures, and rhythm games. You take on the role of Rama, a young musician in Jakarta. Rama is struggling to move forward after the death of his girlfriend, Cinta. For over a year, he has struggled, battling his mental health, neglecting his relationships, and abandoning his music. And, as if that mountain wasn’t steep enough, Rama also hears Cinta’s voice in his head.
Rama has one month to sort himself out before a make-or-break gig with his band. He needs to finish the EP he promised Cinta, but put off until it was too late. He has two outcomes before him: either he gets serious about his music and finishes the EP or the band moves on without him. Over the 28 days, explore Jakarta, engage in meaningful conversations and jam out with the band in the rhythm game sections. Use these days to come to terms with the past, rediscover creativity, repair old relationships and pursue new ones.
Afterlove EP is developed by Pikselnesia, an Indonesian indie studio founded by Mohammad Fahmi. Fahmi was the creator of the beloved part coffee brewing, part heart-to-heart simulator, Coffee Talk. Sadly, he passed away in 2022, leaving Afterlove EP as his final project. Since his unfortunate passing, the Pikselnesia team has worked diligently to honour his vision. With the release of Afterlove EP, the team at Pikselnesia brings his final project to fruition, which I think is really, really beautiful. Not only does Afterlove EP showcase the studio’s skill in crafting an emotional, narrative-driven experience, but it also serves as a genuine, heartfelt tribute to a sorely missed creator.
With its sincere story, cute manga-inspired art and wonderful music (written and performed in Indonesian by indie band L’Alphalpha), Afterlove EP is poised to be a truly moving experience. Help Rama face the future and the daunting prospect of moving on when Afterlove EP releases on 14 February for PC, Nintendo Switch, Xbox Series X|S, and PlayStation 5.
