Assassin’s Creed Shadows hit with another delay

Ubisoft’s beleaguered upcoming title, Assassin’s Creed Shadows, is experiencing another delay. After being pushed from November 15th 2024 to February 14th 2025, the game has now been pushed later in the year. Ubisoft has cited additional work required to implement feedback and ensure the game debuts in a strong state as reasons for the delay.

“We want to extend our heartfelt thanks to our incredible fans and dedicated teams for your unwavering support since our announcement in September to further refine and polish Assassin’s Creed Shadows,” writes Ubisoft in a statement on social media. “Since November, we’ve been thrilled to share our progress through Gameplay Overviews, and the overwhelming excitement has truly inspired us. Each week has brought valuable feedback from our community. While we’ve already made remarkable strides, we believe a few additional weeks are needed to implement that feedback and ensure an even more ambitious and engaging day-one experience.”

“Accordingly, the new release date is March 20, 2025. We remain committed to delivering a high-quality, immersive experience-fostered by ongoing dialogue between our players and development teams.”

While ensuring that Assassin’s Creed Shadows releases in a strong technical state is never a bad reason to delay a game, this delay to March 2025 also conveniently moves the game’s release date out of a rather busy period for the year. February 2025 will see the release of many other highly anticipated titles, such as Monster Hunter: Wilds, Avowed and Civilisation VII. The Assassin’s Creed franchise is still generally a big seller. However, after disappointing sales figures of many of Ubisoft’s other recent open world single player titles, such as Star Wars: Outlaws and Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, it is perhaps understandable that Ubisoft is approaching Assassin’s Creed Shadows’ launch cautiously and is seeking a less competitive month in which to release it.

At any rate, we will get to experience Yasuke and Naoe’s adventures in Feudal Japan when Assassin’s Creed Shadows releases on the 20th of March 2025.
