Borderlands 4, the long-awaited new instalment in Gearbox’s long-awaited sci-fi FPS series, now has a confirmed release date after its formal reveal late last year. The new trailer also shows off some of the series’ trademark looter-shooter action, while leaving a lot of the specifics of the plot and new cast of Vault Hunters yet to be confirmed.
The latest Borderlands 4 trailer shown off during today’s PlayStation State of Play presentation shows some typical Borderlands action, with some teases at the new gameplay content we can expect. The player character is shown using a grappling hook to vault across the battlefield, suggesting some new movement mechanics will be in play. The series’ trademark focus on crazy guns and over-the-top abilities also appears to be preserved. The trailer features pistols, assault rifles, miniguns and at one point the player character fires what appears to be a deadly disco ball at their foes. Fans of the series’ crazy arsenal will have a lot to look forward to, it seems.
Borderlands 4 is still a while off, but at least we know when it is coming out. The game will be releasing on PS5, Xbox Series X/S and PC on September 23rd 2025. While this trailer was quite light on an actual gameplay breakdown, Gearbox has also promised that a proper full gameplay reveal will be taking place during another State of Play coming out later in the year.
