Rainbow Six Siege X overhaul announced alongside new Operator

Ubisoft has announced Rainbow Six Siege X, an overhaul and name change for its long-running multiplayer tactical shooter to commemorate its 10th anniversary. Although more of what this new era of the game will entail is planned to be revealed next month, this initial announcement gives some ideas of what to expect, such as a new Operator and other gameplay enhancements.

As detailed on Ubisoft’s blog, year 10 of Rainbow Six Siege will kick off soon with Operation Prep Phase. Operation Prep Phase will introduce Rauora, a new Operator from New Zealand. Rauora comes equipped with the 417 designated marksman rifle or the M249 light machinegun as her primary weapons, and GSH-18 9mm pistol and the new Reaper MK2 machine pistol as secondary weapons. Her unique gadget is the Deployable Omnilink Mesh (D.O.M.) Launcher, a bulletproof smart cover system which deploys in doorways to obstruct enemy movement and lines of sight. Rauora will be available at the start of the season with the Operation Prep Phase Battle Pass. Players can unlock her two weeks later with Renown or R6 Credits.

As for what the Rainbow Six Siege X overhaul will entail, we may need to wait for concrete details. According to the announcement post, Rainbow Six Siege X will be “ the biggest transformation in the game’s history” and will introduce “new ways to play, deepened tactical gameplay, refined game feel and major upgrades all around“. At any rate, there will be a showcase on March 14th at 4AM AEST on the Rainbow Six Siege Twitch channel providing greater detail on what to expect, alongside an in-person event in Atlanta, Georgia.

Rainbow Six Siege has gone through multiple ups and downs in its ten years of operation. Notably, the game has recently introduced a rather unpopular subscription service on top of the price to play the game in the first place. It is unclear exactly how much of a revamp of the existing formula Rainbow Six Siege X is likely to be, however we will find out next month when more is finally revealed.
