Nintendo has officially revealed the release date for its live-action film of The Legend of Zelda.
Originally announced in November 2023, it’s been a long wait for any new information on the project. Thankfully, through Nintendo Today, a brand-new mobile app for daily Nintendo updates, the release date has been confirmed as March 26, 2027. So, we’ve got a while to wait before the Zelda franchise joins Nintendo’s list of properties making it to the big screen.
Nintendo hasn’t announced any other details about the movie, which is understandable given how far away the release is. However, we do know from the initial 2023 announcement that Zelda series creator Shigeru Miyamoto is producing the film, alongside Avi Arad, who has produced video game-to-film adaptations such as 2022’s Uncharted and 2024’s Borderlands. Additionally, we know the film will be directed by Wes Ball, known for his work on the Maze Runner series.
So, what will fans do while waiting for the live-action Zelda film to drop in 2027? Speculate, probably. With the film still a few years away, the live-action cast will be a major part of the anticipation. Who gets to play Link, Zelda and other iconic characters? What game or games will be depicted? Undoubtedly, the internet will be full of fan theories until we get more information. Here’s to hoping Tingle makes the cut for live-action.
