Split Fiction, Hazelight Studio’s latest and greatest co-op game, is in the early days of getting a film adaptation. Variety reports that a competitive bidding war is underway for the rights to adapt the hit game to film, with media company Story Kitchen actively assembling a creative team to bring the new project to life.
Split Fiction follows two authors, Mio and Zoe, as they become trapped within worlds of their own stories. This all happens thanks to a machine designed to steal the creative ideas of its unknowing users. The game emphasises cooperative multiplayer gameplay, requiring two players to work together to make their way out of the two women’s intertwined stories.
Hazelight Studios and its founder, Josef Fares, have yet to comment publicly on the potential Split Fiction film adaptation. However, strong interest from Hollywood highlights the game’s widespread appeal. This isn’t the first time Hazelight has explored film adaptations too, as an It Takes Two film is also in development, produced by none other than Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson.
It’s important, of course, to keep in mind that not all adaptations come to fruition. With nothing set in stone, it will be very interesting to follow along and see how this potential Split Fiction film develops and, more importantly, how filmmakers might translate the firmly split-screen co-op gameplay experience of Split Fiction into a cinematic format.
