The House in Fata Morgana live action adaptation in the works

Posted on March 14, 2025

The niche but immensely well-received visual novel House in Fata Morgana has been announced to receive a live-action adaptation, being produced in the United States. This news comes after the recent Visual Novel sale on Steam, which was a huge success for the game. Along with the adaptation announcement, a community post announced that an additional 10,000 sales were made in this period.

“We’re pleased to announce that a live action adaptation of The House in Fata Morgana is being planned for production in the United States!” says developer NOVECT. “We’re currently seeking an experienced producer, director, and/or showrunner.”

The House in Fata Morgana features a story that could make for an immensely compelling adaptation. It’s a gothic tale full of intrigue, suspense and tragedy. Set across almost a millennium, players untangle the mystery of what befell many people who lived in an old Victorian mansion. It’s dark, but moving. There’s a good reason it’s the highest-rated visual novel of all time on Metacritic. With how involved it is, I can’t help but wonder whether it’d be more suited to a television series or a tight and concise movie.

This adaptation follows suit of a growing trend of games making the jump to the big screen, with titles like It Takes Two on the way and the second season of The Last of Us being a few short weeks away.

What becomes of this adaptation, time will tell. Given their current search for a majority of the talent, it’s safe to say The House in Fata Morgana won’t be gracing our screens for quite some time yet.
