This year’s British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) Game Awards 2025 on Tuesday was dominated by Astro Bot, with developer Team Asobi walking away with five awards, including Best Game. It follows on from its huge success at both the DICE awards and Geoff Keighley’s The Game Awards, where it also won Best Game. On Tuesday, it also took away the prizes for Animation, Audio Achievement, Family Game and Game Design.
The runner-up of the evening was The Chinese Room’s Still Wakes the Deep, a game that has been absent at other major industry award shows but on Tuesday took home the awards for New Intellectual Property and Performer in a Leading and Supporting Role.
Breakout poker indie game Balatro, which won three awards at The Game Awards, took away the prize for Best Debut Game. Solo developer LocalThunk has consistently maintained his anonymity amidst the game’s huge success, which led to actor Ben Starr, dressed as Balatro’s iconic Joker Jimbo, accepting the award on his behalf.
This year’s recipient for the BAFTA Fellowship was composer Yoko Shumomura, who is widely regarded for the music from Street Fighter 2, the Kingdom Hearts series and more.
Other notable 2024 games that won awards include Neva, Thank Goodness You’re Here!, Helldivers 2, Tales of Kenzera: Zau, Metaphor: ReFantazio and Senua’s Sage: Hellblade 2. The full list of winners is below, but can also be found on the BAFTA’s webpage here:
