It’s official (well, leaked, but close enough) The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion remaster could quite certainly be real. After years of whispers, rumours, and Reddit sleuthing, Bethesda’s iconic open-world RPG might be making its epic return nearly 20 years after it first blew our minds in 2006.
Thanks to a datamine of developer Virtuos’ website, fans have uncovered screenshots, confirmed platforms, and the best part: a release week of 21 April 2025. While that later information does seem a little far-fetched, we’ll wait and see what happens in the next week.
According to a post on X, the Oblivion remaster will include updated blocking inspired by Elden Ring, sneak icons now highlighted, a stamina system that has been improved, changes to the HUD, enemies reacting to being hit, and a complete rework of the archery system.
Likely built within Unreal Engine 5, the Oblivion remaster looks to be a complete visual overhaul. The leaked screenshots reveal dramatic upgrades to lighting, textures, and environments, with a noticeable shift in art style that’s already sparking debate online. It’s like seeing Cyrodiil for the first time all over again.
The remaster is coming to Xbox Series X|S, PS5, and PC (Steam), and rumoured to be on Xbox Game Pass at launch. That means you can jump straight into the Imperial City, pick a fight with a mudcrab, or accidentally punch a guard (again) without spending a cent.
For many, Oblivion was the first taste of The Elder Scrolls series. It was a massive, mysterious world filled with weird quests, Daedric princes, and one very persistent Adoring Fan. It followed the much-loved Morrowind, and laid the foundation for insane success of Skyrim.
With The Elder Scrolls Online gearing up for new content and The Elder Scrolls VI still over the horizon, this remaster is the perfect way to get your Tamriel fix.
More information will hopefully be officially revealed soon. We’re looking forward to seeing what happens next week and hopefully diving into the brand new remaster, soon.
