Nintendo Switch 2 release date confirmed, and it’s soon

Posted on April 3, 2025

The Nintendo Switch 2 has finally received a release date, and it’s incredibly soon; it will be released on June 5. It will be launching for a suggested retail price of AU$699.95.

The much anticipated console will have a 7.9 inch screen, compared with the OG Switch 6.2 inches, but the system’s thickness remains the same. The LCD screen allows for 1080p, HDR support, and 120 fps for supported titles. In docked mode, 4K resolution for compatible games, and HDR for supported TV’s is included.

As we’ve seen previously, the Joy-Con 2 controllers connect magnetically, keeping them firmly attached to the system, with an easy release button. The SL and SR buttons are bigger as well, with larger control sticks, and as we also suspected, mouse controls for compatible games.

The Switch 2 also boasts improved speakers for clearer audio and a built-in microphone for easy voice-chatting, with noise-cancelling technology. It will also feature 3D audio. It has a new sturdy stand that can be moved and adjusted and a second USB-C port on top of the system, which is handy for charging while on the stand, or plugging in peripherals (like the newly announced Nintendo Switch 2 Camera). Its storage will include 256GB of internal storage, 8 times more than the OG Switch.

The presentation revealed a lot about the Switch 2. For example, even the cartridges are getting a fancy upgrade: they’ll be red instead of black. Additionally, the Switch 2 will only use MicroSD Express Cards, so you’ll need to invest in a new memory card to expand your storage. Lastly, as previously noted, compatible Switch games will be playable on the Switch 2.

With only two months to wait before we’ll quite literally have the Switch 2 in our hands, it’s time to well and truly get on the hype train. For Nintendo, the next generation is right around the corner.

The Nintendo Switch 2 will launch on June 5, 2025.
