The fairy flies again as Bravely Default remaster launches on Switch 2

One of the announcements from last night’s Nintendo Switch 2 Direct was Bravely Default Flying Fairy HD Remaster, a remaster of the critically acclaimed Nintendo 3DS RPG that will release June 5 as an exclusive launch title for the Switch 2.

Bravely Default, also known as Bravely Default: Flying Fairy, was developed for the 3DS by Silicon Studio and published by Square Enix in Japan and Nintendo overseas. It graced the Australian market in February 2014. It sold more than 3 million copies worldwide, inspired the Octopath Traveler series, and was a refreshing take on the classic JRPG story established by titles like Final Fantasy.

In this game, four Warriors of Light embark on a voyage across the world of Luxendark to restore power to the crystals and bring light to a world that darkness has begun to consume. Featuring a party of charming heroes in a vibrant, picture-book illustrated world, Bravely Default features a fully customisable job-based party system and the series’ stable Brave and Default turn-based battle mechanic. The two commands allow players to spend brave points (BP) to take up to four actions in a single turn using Brave, or accumulate BP and guard with Defualt.

This HD Remaster for Switch 2 is set to include all the features of the original Nintendo 3DS version, such as adjustable enemy encounter rates and the ability to increase the speed of battle. As well as new enhancements like high-definition graphics to showcase the beautiful work of lead artist Akihiko Yoshida, a redesigned user interface for a single screen, fast forwardable event scenes, and two new minigames with Luxencheer Rhythm Catch and Ringabel’s Panic Cruise.

Bravely Default Flying Fairy HD Remaster will launch exclusively on Nintendo Switch 2 on June 5, 2025.
