Fortnite has continued to iterate and change every season, but it keeps coming back to one of the biggest IPs in the world: Star Wars. Well, your favourite characters from a galaxy far, far away are returning in the new season of Battle Royale, with what it’s calling its “most expansive Star Wars experience to date.
In Galactic Battle, every week, “the Imperial takeover will feature iconic new and returning weapons, abilities, and vehicles from various Star Wars eras. Players can pilot the Imperial TIE fighters and Rebel Alliance X-wings, train in Force abilities, including the all-new Force Lightning, and wield Lightsabers once again – plus, non-lightsaber combat is blasters-only this Season.”
The “blasters-only” rule for the beginning of the season is certainly a shift from the regular arsenal of assault rifles, SMGs and Snipers that we’d normally see littered across the Fortnite map, but there are around nine different ones to choose from, so it’ll still cater to your weaponry needs, albeit with a Star Wars twist. Being able to pilot the TIE fighters and X-wings is unique too, as they’ll be able to attack opponents as you zip across the map.
Earning XP in any Fortnite experience will have you working your way through the Star Wars Battle Pass, unlocking free and premium in-game rewards, including Outfits for Emperor Palpatine, General Grievous, Apprentice Evie, and more. Plus, Leia and Luke will arrive on the Island on May 8, alongside renowned smuggler Han Solo to offer you strategic services. Beyond that, it’s weekly appearances from Star Wars favs; everybody’s favourite Wookiee, Chewbacca, will be popping in on May 15 with some new weapons to add into the mix, then May 22 brings the Mandalorians into the field. It all culminates in a Final Showdown on June 7, where you’ll need to “mobilise and take the fight to Emperor Palpatine in a live, in-game narrative event”.
