Warhammer Skulls showcase unveils Boltgun sequel, Dawn of War remaster and more

Posted on May 23, 2025

Warhammer fans rejoice! The Warhammer Skulls showcase has unveiled multiple new games and DLC coming out over the next year or so for fans to enjoy.

From retro-style FPS entries to remasters to expansions for recent releases, there is a lot to look forward to no matter what genre you prefer. To commemorate the occasion, there are also significant discounts for a large number of existing Warhammer games on Xbox, PlayStation, and PC to tide players over who are waiting for these new releases.

The first game announced in the showcase is Warhammer 40,000: Dark Heresy, an upcoming narrative-driven RPG by Owlcat Games, the studio behind Rogue Trader, Pathfinder: Kingmaker and Wrath of the Righteous. As per the game’s description on its Steam Store page, Dark Heresy puts the players in the role of an Inquisitor as they investigate heresy and defend the Imperium in the lawless Calixis Sector. Similar to Owlcat’s previous games, you build a party of fully-voiced NPCs and explore the world with a mixture of dialogue trees, exploration and turn-based combat. Warhammer 40K: Dark Heresy does not yet have a release date, but will eventually be available on PlayStation, Xbox and PC.

Next in the announcement list was Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War – Definitive Edition. This remaster of the clasic 2004 real-time strategy title will include the base game alongside its three expansions, Winter Assault, Dark Crusade, and Soulstorm. Players can also expect upgraded visuals, HUD, camera, as other enhancements. Fans of the game’s vibrant modding community can also take solace in the fact that the remaster will be compatible with “over 20-years of lovingly crafted community mods“. Dawn of War – Definitive Edition doesn’t yet have a firm release date, but can be wishlisted on Steam for those seeking to be kept up to date with new info.

Another major announcement in the presentation was a sequel to Auroch Digital’s 2023 retro-style FPS, Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun. Taking strong influence from the classic 90s DOOM entries, from its graphical presentation, fast-paced gunplay and keycards galore, Boltgun was a love letter to the boomer shooters of yesteryear, and Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun 2 appears to be bringing more of that energy. Once again putting players into the armour of Malum Caedo, players can expect “a branching, non-linear single player campaign” when Boltgun 2 releases in 2026 on Xbox, PlayStation and PC. Also announced was Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun – Words of Vengeance, a typing-themed spin-off of the first game where players cut down hordes of foes by typing words and phrases from Warhammer 40K lore. Words of Vengeance is currently available to download for free right now on Steam.

Finally, plenty of existing Warhammer games are seeing additional support. On the subject of Rogue Trader, Owlcat’s 2023 RPG is getting its second major expansion, Lex Imperialis, on the 24th of June. It will include a new companion, Solomorne Anthar, along with 15 hours of new story content. Owlcat has more plans for Rogue Trader despite also having Dark Heresy in the works, with a second Season Pass and two additional expansions on the way. Saber Interactive’s acclaimed 2024 shooter, Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2, is also getting a new Siege Mode. This free update will pit three players against endless hordes of Tyranid and Chaos forces while defending an Imperial fortress.

There will be a public test server going live on June the 4th on Steam, following the rollout of the full mode on all plaforms on the 26th of June 2025.
