Fallen Tear: The Ascension is the debut title for Manila-based game dev company CMD Studios. It teases itself as a 2D Metroidvania meets JRPG, where you play as Hira, exploring the world of Raoah through combat, problem-solving, and the power of friendship.
In this game, you will explore a vast world filled with different monsters and environments. The way you get through a new environment will be based on your playstyle as you unlock new skills and abilities as you progress, allowing you to customise your fighting style. Additionally, you can recruit allies (aka fated bonds) who will help you on your quest. There are 22 allies to unlock, each with its own voice lines and active and passive abilities.
A 2023 X/Twitter post by the official Fallen Tear: The Ascension account teased an enormous game map while jokingly claiming that it may be the “Elden Ring of Metroidvania in terms of map size.” In addition to that argument, the official game’s website states that there are 26 interactable biomes and promises over 150 enemies to face in combat.
Reported by Rappler, Fallen Tear: The Ascension won the Global Play Showcase Award at the Game Developers Conference 2024. In an interview, the team expressed interest in becoming “the beacon of the Philippine gaming community” and hopes that the game’s success would acknowledge the talents of those living in the country while also giving a sense of “Pinoy Pride.”
Fallen Tear: The Ascension is scheduled to be released in 2026. In the meantime, you can add it to your wishlist on Steam. Additionally, it will be available on Xbox, PlayStation, and Nintendo Switch.
