Game of Thrones: War For Westeros is coming to PC next year

Australia’s own PlaySide Studios have announced Game of Thrones: War For Westeros, a real-time strategy game set in George R. R. Martin’s viciously fantastical A Song of Ice and Fire universe. The title was revealed during Summer Game Fest 2025 via a cinematic trailer, and outlined in more detail in the Melbourne-based studio’s blog. Check out the trailer below.

Described as a “classic, real-time strategy game”, War For Westeros will allow players to play as some of the series’ famously fractured factions and vie for control of the Iron Throne. Heroes from House Stark, House Lannister, and House Targaryen (as well as the Night King’s army of the dead) will feature with special abilities in combat that reflect the talents of their respective houses. In addition to solo campaigns, a free-for-all multiplayer mode will let players duke it out across the Seven Kingdoms in bloody battle.

After a rocky reception for the recent mobile title Game of Thrones: Kingsroad, we’re excited to see a fully-fledged adventure set in Westeros. The RTS genre feels like a perfect fit for the series’ epic battles and filthy politics, hopefully elevating the vicious bickering of the (admittedly excellent) board game into a gloriously cinematic stoush.

Game of Thrones: War For Westeros is planned for a PC release sometime in 2026. You can find more details and some alpha gameplay footage at PlaySide’s developer diary.
