Double Fine, the team behind Psychonauts, Broken Age and Brutal Legend, has just announced at the Xbox Games Showcase their new upcoming title, Keeper, which sees players taking control of a sentient, walking lighthouse.
Lee Petty, the Art Director of Brutal Legend, will be taking on the role of Creative Lead for Keeper, a surreal third-person explorative puzzle-solving experience without any dialogue.
Keeper is set in a post-human world. “After eons of lying dormant, the Lighthouse unexpectedly moves. It shudders and shakes, and tumbles to the ground, its ancient masonry cracking apart. But then something even stranger occurs… its broken pieces of rubble reassemble, and it stands up once more – but now on newly formed legs. It has awakened.” It seems the lighthouse will be joined by a feathered friend, who will be able to interact with the environment to help players solve certain puzzles.
A blog post on Double Fine’s website states that Keeper has roots in the pandemic, and that both it and the creation of Keeper had Lee’s mind “pondering loneliness, isolation, companionship, and the very fate of humanity.” It seems Keeper will be exploring these themes, and what the world might have to offer once all its human inhabitants have disappeared.
Keeper is coming to Xbox Series X|S, Xbox PC, Xbox Cloud, Steam, and will be playable day one with Game Pass, on October 17, 2025.
