Resident Evil Requiem revealed at the last moment of Summer Game Fest

Posted on June 7, 2025

In the middle of Summer Game Fest 2025, the presentation paused to show a brief message from Capcom, featuring Maggie Robertson, the voice of Madam Dimitrescu in Resident Evil Village, celebrating the 30th anniversary of the Resident Evil franchise. Usually, this kind of message would come with an exciting announcement about what fans can expect next from the franchise, but the message then cut to executive producer Jun Takeuchi said “About the latest Resident Evil game you’ve been waiting for, bear with us a little longer, just a blink of an eye more, and it’ll be ready,” implying that there would be no such announcement until further notice. Well, it turns out that was a little prank on the audience, because the very last trailer of the showcase announcement trailer for the ninth game in the series: Resident Evil requiem!

This cinematic trailer introduces a character who may be our new protagonist, Grace Ashcroft. It’s mentioned that her mother, who was murdered eight years ago, was named Alyssa, identifying her as the same Alyssa Ashcroft who appeared in Resident Evil Outbreak. She survived Outbreak, only to be apparently murdered at a ‘Remwood Hotel’. Grace appears to be very affected by the location’s name, and seems to remember something about what happened. The rest of the trailer is a bit of a tease of things to come, even if we don’t know what they mean.

Resident Evil requiem has a launch date set for February 27 2026, for PS5, Xbox Series S and X, and PC.
