During the Xbox Games Showcase, The Blood of Dawnwalker was announced alongside a gameplay trailer by developers Rebel Wolves and publisher Bandai Namco. Set in 14th-century Europe, where the Black Death is raging fiercely, Vampires are taking the opportunity to claim the dying land for themselves.
The Blood of Dawnwalker follows Coen, a young man who has been turned into a creature feared by both sides of the coin. A Dawnwalker, no longer fully human but not quite fully vampire, with the ability to walk amongst them both. It appears players will have the option to either try to hold onto their humanity or embrace the darkness within Coen, with an impact on the story and consequences for either path.
Rebel Wolves have announced that on June 21, they will be holding a 45-minute-long livestream on their Twitch channel, featuring 15 minutes of new gameplay content, followed by a 30-minute-long director’s commentary. The livestream will shed light on key gameplay features, including the directional combat system that blends swordfighting, spells, and vampiric powers. There will also be a look into the world of Vale Sangora, and how players will be able to traverse the landscape, and the gameplay differences between night and day, which will have direct impacts on the story.
Watching the trailer, I couldn’t help but think that this looked a bit like the Witcher 3, which makes total sense considering Rebel Wolves is a team built of industry veterans, some of whom are ex-CD Projekt Red. In fact, Rebel Wolves was co-founded by Konrad Tomaszkiewicz, director of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. It’s safe to say the team is comprised of a lot of talented people, and it’ll be exciting to learn more about the world as new gameplay comes out.
The Blood of Dawnwalker is set to release in 2026 on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, with no concrete release date as of yet.
