AdHoc announces Project Exandria, a new game set in the world of Critical Role

Posted on July 22, 2025

The Critical Role empire continues to expand, with new plans to make a video game, currently called Project Exandria, based on the live series. In an exclusive interview Critical Role co-star and CEO Travis Willingham announced the project as well as some first details.

The game will be developed by AdHoc Studio, a team founded by veteran developers from the defunct Telltale Games. AdHoc haven’t released any games, but is creating upcoming titles such as Dispatch and The Wolf Among Us 2. Willingham states he was blown away by the impressive quality of Dispatch’s demo. He later reached out to AdHoc COO Nick Herman to begin their collaboration with Critical Role.

Project Exandria, Critical Role

Little information has been given about Project Exandria, but Willingham confirms the title is set within the Critical Role world. He insists the project wants to focus on an entirely new story, but teases that some well-known characters from the series may make an appearance. Based on AdHoc’s experience, Project Exandria will likely be a narrative-focused adventure game similar to other famous Telltale Games.

Project Exandria is just another step in the expansion of Critical Role as a business. What was once just a group of voice actors playing Dungeons & Dragons on Twitch has grown over the past few years. From comic books to global live shows and even an Amazon original series, a video game seems like the logical next step.
