Back in January, Nintendo announced that the Game Boy would become a LEGO set. Now, LEGO has transformed the console into a stunning buildable replica, packed with detailed features that pay homage to the iconic handheld. Pre-orders are now open on the LEGO website, with the set scheduled to release later this year, making it a must-have collectible for any gamer.
For $99.99, this 421-piece set allows you to build a nearly 1:1 replica of the iconic 1989 Nintendo Game Boy. It also includes two cartridge builds of The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening and Super Mario Land, both of which can be inserted and swapped out, along with matching lenticular screens to accompany each game. It also comes with a stand, allowing you to display your build on a shelf. Pre-orders are now live on the LEGO website. In a post on X, LEGO recreated the original 1989 Game Boy ad in its latest promo to hype up the set’s launch.

The LEGO Game Boy marks the second Nintendo console LEGO has turned into a buildable set. The first was a replica of the Nintendo Entertainment System released in 2020. It was somewhat part of the LEGO Super Mario series as one of the build’s functions interacts with the Super Mario figurine. This build contained over 2,646 pieces, allowing builders to recreate an old TV with Super Mario on the screen, the console itself, and a cartridge of Super Mario Bros. Outside of Nintendo, LEGO also released the PAC-MAN Arcade set. And while it’s a non-functional game, the build features many details reminiscent of this retro title.
The LEGO Game Boy will be released on October 1, 2025.
