It was just last week that Battlefield 6 dropped a thrilling cinematic trailer, teasing a multiplayer reveal for this week. Now, plenty of details about the multiplayer mode for the highly anticipated sequel have been revealed, along with a release date: Battlefield 6 will release on October 10, 2025, with an upcoming open beta scheduled for the coming weeks.
“The year is 2027. The world is on the edge of chaos. After a high-profile assassination shocks the world, major European countries have left NATO, while the US and its allies grapple with the fallout. A massive private military corporation unafraid to cross lines, with deep pockets and the latest tech, looks to fill the power vacuum. This army is PAX ARMATA. What’s left of NATO is in tatters, wounded and battered. This is the world of Battlefield 6.” says the press release.
While Battlefield 6 is set to have a blockbuster single-player campaign, today was all about deep-diving into the multiplayer. Key features to note include the Kinesthetic Combat System, which provides players with greater mobility, including the ability to Drag and Revive teammates to pull them out of danger once they are downed, as well as the option to mount weapons on walls.
In addition, the Class System is back, with Assault, Recon, Support, and Engineer roles, designed to make for a cohesive and effective squad of four, each with different strengths, specific gadgets, signature weapons and dedicated training. Modes include classic staples like Team Deathmatch, Squad Deathmatch, Domination and King of the Hill, but a new mode called Escalation sees two teams fight to capture strategic control points, eventually forcing them into close combat as the round progresses.
What’s a real highlight to look forward to is the Tactical Destruction; you can transform the combat zone in some really wild ways, including destroying buildings, smashing through the environment in unprecedented ways, and even create opportunities, like, for example, blowing out the floor beneath you to drop down onto unsuspecting enemies on the level beneath.
Portal is also back; that’s Battlefield 6’s robust toolset, which boasts “spatial editing, AI and custom scripting and mutators to build your preferred Battlefield experience, including open and closed weapons, hardcore mode, and vehicle toggles, and a server browser,” for those folk who are far more creative than I am.
As a final tease, Ripple Effect are indeed working on an unannounced experience for Battlefield 6. While it wasn’t confirmed exactly what it was, a fancy mansion is shown first, before panning to reveal an L.A. backdrop, lending credence to the “Battle Royale in Los Angeles” rumours that have been around for a while now. It certainly seems inevitable, and the setting should offer a unique place to drop from a helicopter and run from a shrinking circle to be the last person standing. Probably.
If that all sounds great to you, you can jump into the open beta, taking place across two weekends, from August 9 – 10 and from August 14 – 17. The beta allows players to experience several of the multiplayer modes and maps and is running across all available platforms. You can find out more about it here.
